Abstract
Elizabeth Dreyer and her Fairfield University class were recently taken hostage by a young man claiming to carry a bomb. Elizabeth reflected on her extraordinary experiences in an essay for The Chronicle of Higher Education. In this essay for The Journal of College and Character, John Bennett and Elizabeth Dreyer further examine questions related to the hostage experience and the personal resources and support provided by intellectual and spiritual reflection.
