Abstract
Where does the Catholic Church stand today with reference to Rerum Novarum (the original encyclical on social justice)?
Dr. Maria Pilar Aquino discusses the importance and richness of the teachings of Rerum Novarum , but is worried about the weak voice it holds in parishes and with the average American Catholic. She condemns the Church’s hierarchy’s focus on sexual topics and calls for a stronger voice for social justice in the world. Catholic Social Teaching should be the most important issue for the people of the Church today.
