Abstract

What is most significant for the American Catholic Church today?

Dr. Maria Pilar Aquino discusses her opinion that the lay members of the Church and their actions have overshadowed the importance of the Second Vatican Council and the role of the hierarchy. She specifically cites the movement of Medellin as an empowering event for lay people that has become greater than actions of the bishops alone.
