Abstract
What is your definition of religion?
Dr. Margaret Farley describes her understanding of religion as a response to an experience of transcendence. She acknowledges that death, guilt, gratitude, and self-knowledge give rise to the concerns of religion, but she does not want to limit the experience of transcendence to one of these. She speaks of the importance of experience within religion and describes an activity of exploring one’s personal experience with God that she often uses with her students.
