Abstract

Do you think people would be religious if they were never going to die?

Dr. Jonathan Z. Smith discusses whether people would be religious if they were never going to die. Immediately what comes to mind is people would not be human if they were never going to die. He explains that religion has the possibility of involving itself with everything human. Since it is his opinion that religion is the most complicated activity humans do, he would hate to think that all that complexity depends upon only one issue, death.
